Solar is the future of energy and Texas appears to be at the forefront of the green energy movement! Originally, Texas was one of the leading states for wind power; however, due to lax laws and regulations when it comes to renewable energy, solar energy is spiking in popularity in Texas! With the outrageous snowstorm Texas experienced recently, there has been an even bigger push towards renewable energy to take pressure off of the Texas grid. The grid completely failed during this phenomenon which was devastating in more ways than one for the people of Texas. With the US Department of Energy pushing for a more aggressive initiative towards rooftop solar, this is propelling Texas even closer to a green, renewable future. A study done by the Texas A&M University reported that…”a technically, economically and environmentally feasible solution for electricity generation, and could play a significant role in the future energy mix of Texas.” Additionally, the Dallas Morning News reported that ERCOT has seen a flood of new solar proposals totaling 91,000 megawatts of solar along with 33,000 megawatts of battery-type energy storage.
All of this is good news as the US as a whole moves towards a greener future, Texas is helping us get there with their own progress. Texas is one of the many states that are a prime location for solar and wind energy production. The more we push for a green energy future, the more we are actively fighting climate change.
